Nissan Brings Safety to the Masses

Before revealing the latest Nissan news, Jenkins Nissan would like to take a second to lay some groundwork regarding current automotive safety trends. First off, most all automakers have been working for years to come up with possibly life-saving and accident-avoidance technologies. The problem? These features often come at a high-cost because they require the use of expensive radar sensors. Furthermore, study upon study has shown that consumers would rather pay extra for convenience features than safety.
Of course, leave it to Nissan to take those challenges and find a tangible solution. Working on a "making do with less" philosophy, engineers have developed a camera-based system that will use sophisticated image processing to achieve pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning and blind-spot warning. Moreover, these safety features will be much cheaper to employ thanks to the use of two wide-angle cameras that already exist in the automaker's Around View Monitors.
Due to the fact that the safety technology operates based on external cameras, there is the chance that minor problems could arise in extreme weather conditions. However, considering that the system will supply tens of thousands of drivers with cost-friendly, life-saving features, we think that the occasional weather blip is a minor sacrifice we are willing to accept.
If you're interested in obtaining the aforementioned safety features and protecting your on-road experience, be sure to stay tuned for more information. For now we can tell you that Nissan is working to offer the camera-based system for as little as a few hundred dollars on mainstream models such as the Nissan Altima, Nissan Rogue and Nissan Murano.
